The Empowering Commonsense Wildfire Prevention and Response Executive Order (EO), signed on June 12, 2025, marks a significant shift in federal wildland fire strategy. It directs streamlined agency coordination, modernized response efforts, and prioritizes proactive land management. 

This review breaks down the EO’s directives, identifies potential gaps, and outlines strategies for stakeholders to adapt to and leverage its provisions.  For those of you who were also tracking the draft version of this EO that appeared in the news on April 17, this review also includes an appendix that compares that version with the final signed EO.
